By age nineteen I'd learned a truth
that life was different in my youth,
the cares I had back then were few
and all of life felt fresh and new.
I would talk and laugh with all my friends
it seemed the fun would never end,
and when I grew too tired to play
I'd wave goodby and walk away.
What happened to those days gone by
when all of life seemed to catch my eye.
When those of you who loved me most
would kiss my cheek and hold me close,
while whispering softly in my ear
words that drove away my fears.
I feel that time has slipped away,
replaced by what I live today.
A life I never would have dreamed,
goodby my youth, hello nineteen.
