The Metaphysics of Politics

A foray into the workings of consciousness would not be complete without a look at the activity and structure, that from outward appearances,... constitutes the make up of our political system. Now in looking at political structures, I am going to generalize and not get in to specifics.

As well, I am just going to comment on their effects, as opposed to their inner workings, of which I am in the main, admittedly ignorant. However, at the same time, it is obvious that both you and I do not need to be heart surgeons, to know that we have a heart, and that for the moment at least, they are working,... and so I am applying that same philosophy to the area of politics.

In my opinion our political system is deeply flawed, and to illustrate my point I would like to point out that if your car was stuck, and you rounded up enough people to pull you out with a rope, how would you organize them?

According to our current system of politics, if you had ten people to help you, the current political wisdom would dictate that you should tie the middle of the rope onto the car, and then have a party of five individuals pull in one direction, while another party of five should be pulling in the opposite direction, just to keep things equal and unbiased!

Now the absurdity of this situation is such that it does not even deserve commentary, except for the fact that when we move up the ladder into higher levels of structure and authority, there seems to be a tendency, and a necessity, for all present and future political candidates, to have to check their common sense and ethics at the door. It must be part of the qualification necessary to hold public office I guess.

Everything is “energy.” It’s obvious that energy which is similar, can become cumulative, and can accomplish much, while opposing energies of a dissimilar nature, nullify, or totally cancel each other out, and accomplish little. Unless everyone’s energy is similar, and going in the “same direction,” we are wasting our time, energy, and money, in an attempt to defy universal law!

That last statement says it all! All four wheel drive cars have their wheels, all turning in the “same” direction, and if they didn't, you can bet you'd be back at the car dealership in one big hurry, in order to get what ever is wrong, sorted out.

Whatever story they may have sold people, about the necessity of having opposing political parties as a safeguard, in order to fairly get things done, is totally bogus, and contravenes so many other realities in life, that it is laughable to even contemplate how anyone could come up with the idea in the first place.

If you were on the operating table having brain surgery performed, would you want to feel the confidence that comes from having your surgeons in total agreement as to their course of action, or would you want your surgical team to be at odds with each other as to how to proceed, and under minding each other at every opportunity?

In essence then, it doesn't matter how many political parties we have, as long as they have a “cooperative mindset,” which will allow things to get done, and not an antagonistic mindset, which is “energy draining, and wasteful.” If our political parties can not, on their own initiative, create amongst themselves an atmosphere of harmony and cooperation, how then, can they suddenly become capable of leading us into cooperative ventures with other countries around the world? Surely I can't be the only one asking this question!

What is needed to improve upon the performance of our elected officials, is to have the “public” determine the key issues, based on both public need, and desire, and then have everyone in the country all going in the same direction, with the goal of creating the greatest good, for the highest number of people.

Of course public interests are not necessarily aligned with corporate interests, and there are bound to be dissenting factions, who possess lots of financial, and political clout. It is time however, to stop deceiving ourselves, and find out who is really running the country: the banks, the corporations, or the people.

Those business interests which pat themselves on the back for being the creator of so many jobs, are those same business interests which created so much unemployment in the first place, by forcing all the small family owned businesses and farms out of business, leaving us now dependent on an ever smaller number of mega corporations, for our well being and existence. They can hardly then, be congratulated, and looked to as a model for the future.

It’s time to have “harmony,” not dissent. A government that operates on a two tier system of finance and morality, where there are rules for them, and rules for us can hardly be looked to for stability and appropriate direction.

The problem we face, is caused by our letting a government who is intimately tied to big business, decide for us, what the issues are, or should be.

Once the issues have been decided by the public however, there is still the issue of performance. I believe that the more issues you try to work on at the same time, the easier it becomes to hide the inactivity, or delay the actual performance accountability to the public. As such, I believe that you should limit your activities, to a small, fixed number of issues of public importance.

There should be an informal accounting made, every six months to the public, and corroborated by those in the public sector, as to the state of progress made on those very same, limited number of issues. If then, with all the money and resources in hand, it should be discovered that there has been very little progress made in certain areas, those issues and resources should be taken out of the control of government, who has proven to be ineffectual in those areas, and those resources should be placed back into public hands, to be dealt with in some other fashion.

And so, every area of public interest, in which the government has proven itself to be incapable of directing for the public good, should eventually be placed back into the hands of the people, whom the government has repeatedly said it represents.

This should not present any kind of problem, for the government has said, or implied so many times in the past, that “all they are concerned with is our welfare,” and I can’t imagine them wanting to stand in the way of progress!

Now many people have been so totally conditioned by the system which is now in place, that they can't see how we could possibly move to any other system of government. I guess they weren't around in 1776, and it's a good thing, or we would all still be back in the old country, kissing royal butt.

The idea then, is that you have to move mentally where you want to go “first,” then work out how you will get there. However without the mental decision to make a change, there is never any action. So don't ask “how” things are going to change, until you have first “decided,” that you “do” want things to change!

To my mind, it is totally amazing how we could ever have taken something so simple, and turned it into something so complicated, and ineffectual.

It always seems to go, that no matter how poor the government’s performance level is, according to politicians, “we the public” do not have the smarts to carry the ball, which the government itself has dropped so many times in the past!

But then again, I think I have already stated my ignorance in the workings of politics.
